Bucks lose first T20s v Beds
25 Apr 2022

Bucks made a disappointing start to their National Counties T20 Championship campaign when they suffered two defeats to Bedfordshire in their double-header at Dunstable on Sunday.
The hosts won by eight wickets and seven wickets in the two matches after Bucks batsmen failed to make the most of the flat pitch and fast-scoring ground.
Put in to bat in the first game, Bucks could make only 147-8. It would have been much lower but for a brilliant 69 from 42 balls by Buckingham youngster Wells (left). Five of the first six batsmen failed to reach double-figures before Jack Rodnight (Great Brickhill) gave Wells some support with an unbeaten 33.
Bedfordshire were always cruising after a second-wicket stand of 108 between Gus Miller (82no) and Kashif Ali (41) and reached 150-2 with two overs to spare.
Bucks batted better after opting to bat first in the second game, rattling up 171-6 from their 20 overs. Alexei Kervezee made 43, but he was outshone by his Halesowen teammate, debutant Ed Bragg with 56 not out from 25 balls. Both Elliott Callis and Ross Richardson contributed 25.
When Jon Burden dismissed Miller first ball, it looked as though Bucks might have a chance of victory. But Ali (73no) and James Kettleborough (54) made light of the Bucks attack with some spectacular strokeplay to help Beds reach 175-3 from 18.2 overs.
Bucks will be hoping for better luck this weekend, when they entertain Oxfordshire at High Wycombe on Sunday and then travel to Berkshire at Wargrave on Monday. They must win all four games to have a realistic chance of qualifying for the later stages of the competition.
Bucks make two changes to their squad bringing in Conrad Louth for Dan Ogden, and Michael Payne for Jon Burden for the game against Berkshire.
Bucks squad: T Hampton (High Wycombe) capt, C Louth (Wokingham), E Callis (High Wycombe), M Wells (Buckingham), A Kervezee (Halesowen), E Casterton (High Wycombe), R RIchardson (Whitburn), E Bragg (Halesowen), M Payne (Amersham), J Rodnight (Gt Brickhill), C Haddow (High Wycombe), U Amjaid (Highgate), J Burden (Wimbledon), T Weymes (Tring Park).
