An under-strength Bucks Over 60s 1st X1 was easily defeated by Berks at Wraysbury CC in the opening match of this season’s shortened  Over 60s competition. Only Steve White (24), skipper Mike Salmon (22)  and John Rolfe got past twenty as Bucks reached 140-8 off the allotted 40 overs, Rolfe batting through the innings for 52 not out. In reply Berkshire’s innings was dominated by David Tooze, whose 86 not out took his team to victory in just 27 overs. Salmon and Latif Khan took the only two wickets to fall.
A week later in searing heat, Bucks hosted a powerful Hertfordshire X1 in the first seniors match held at Bledlow Ridge CC. Bucks were strengthened by the return of three batsmen and by all-rounder Steve Greaves, making his debut at this age level. At 96-1 Herts looked in a strong position but once David Brooker had bowled high-scoring Duncan Elder for 40 and Mark Rogers had taken a stunning catch to dismiss Si Sampat off Jim Spooner, Herts struggled to 181-9 off 40 overs with Mike Salmon taking 3-38 and Greaves and Rogers, two wickets apiece.
Bucks openers Steve White (51) and John Rolfe (45) set up the run chase with an opening stand of 85 before skipper Keith Wallis with 44 not out, saw Bucks home with an over to spare.
The fixture against Bedfordshire a week later was postponed due to poor weather
